In both Hinduism and Jainism, garlic is considered to stimulate and warm the body and to increase one's desires. Some people generally avoid using garlic and the related onion in the preparation of foods for religious festivities and events.


Cloves are used in Indian Ayurvedic medicine, Chinese medicine, and western herbalism and dentistry, where the essential oil is used as an anodyne (painkiller) for dental emergencies.
Cloves are used as a carminative, to increase hydrochloric acid in the stomach and to improve peristalsis.
Cloves are also said to be a natural anthelmintic.
The volatile oil contains the medicinal properties and it is strong germicide, antiseptic and a local irritant. It
has been used as an expectorant to aid bronchial troubles.
Clove oil is used in various skin disorders like acne, pimples etc. It is also used in severe burns, skin irritations and to reduce the sensitiveness of skin
The buds have anti-oxidant properties.
Clove has cooling and anti-inflammatory effect and thereby clears the nasal passage.
Clove decoction or clove oil can be added to milk to treat respiratory disorders like coughs, colds, bronchitis, asthma, sinusitis and tuberculosis.
Cloves promote enzymatic flow and boosts digestive functioning.
Clove can be a useful addition to food. It is useful for boosting the immune system and its antiviral properties purifies the blood and increases resistance to diseases.


The aroma and therapeutic properties of cardamom are due to its volatile oil. Tinctures of cardamom are used chiefly in medicines to relieve flatulence and for strengthening digestion activities.

Cardamom reduces the air and water elements, increases appetite and soothes the mucous membrane. It relieves gas and heart-burn caused by garlic and onion. Ground cardamom seed mixed with ginger, cloves and coriander, is an effective remedy for indigestion. A tea made from cardamom is valuable in headache caused by indigestion.

The aromatic flavour in cardamom is a breath freshener. A . few seeds chewed for a brief period will remove foul smell.

Powdered seeds of cardamom are boiled in water with tea. It gives a very pleasing aroma to the tea. This can be used as a remedy in the treatment of depression

In India , cardamom is used as masticatory and often included in pan-supari. It is used for flavoring curries, cakes, bread and for other culinary purposes, like flavoring coffee or confectionery.

The essential oil of cardamom is used for pharmaceutical purposes, perfumery, flavoring liquers and bitters, in the preparation of tincture and as a stimulant.
